Growing up I used to think a dog had to obey out of fear, so I’d scold or scare them into following commands. That worked... until we left the house. Then our pups would chew the carpet, dig through the trash, or have accidents on the floor. My family didn’t know a better way, so we gave them away to other families.

When I got Bumblebee, a super-energetic Australian Shepherd, I promised to train him differently. I bought the best food, treats, toys, a comfy dog bed and a crate, but he still barked, had accidents, and one day he shredded my dad’s Father’s Day gift. That’s when I hit my rock bottom and realized I needed help...

I didn’t just want a “well-behaved” dog, I wanted a “smart, calm, and confident” dog.

So I found a teacher and started using science-based positive reinforcement games. Bumblebee transformed and learned to come running when called, relax on a dog bed or in a crate, and walk nicely by my side. He even mastered retrieve, fun party tricks like rollover and riding a skateboard, and staying calm when things get crazy.
